Of course, it depends. You will have to make an effort, and it will most likey take 1-3 days of your time.In some cases, the effort is no more than filling out a form and paying a filing fee, and/or a fee to have the firm served.
If you go the lawyer route, don't assume they will put a firm against you, since often they will be more out of pocket than paying you off to make you go away.
In both cases, the costs can be recoverable as part of a settlement.
