I think UPS treats customers vastly differently depending on who they are. Manufacturers and large volume businesses that have contracts and spend a lot on shipping seem to have very fast and equitable damage claim procedures. Individuals and "small timers" get treated much differently.

I buy a lot of lab equipment from major supply companies, almost always shipped by UPS. We've had a few damaged items over the years. Each time it has been absolutley no problem, claim settled quickly in the full amount with minimal inspection. I have yet to EVER hear of an individual or a member of the general public receiving such favorable service.
