Re: xlo disc/burn track...

There was one time I bought two 1-meter pairs of Kimber KCAG. Since I have two CD players, I decided to burn-in one cable with the XLO/Sheffield disc, and the other with just regular CDs. Because the CD players were different, I swapped cables every twenty-four hours, but I made sure that one cable saw the XLO/Sheffield, while the other didn't.

As I'm not a particularly patient guy, I snuck a listen every now and then, to check on the proceedings. Well, I can't say that the cable that got the XLO/Sheffield burned-in any quicker, but it did sound a litter more open, dynamic, and transparent. But very slightly so.

This is consistent whenever I use the XLO/Sheffield disc, regardless of whether a cable or component is new or not.

For the record, I get better results with Purist Audio's burn-in disc. Still, eve nthough I don't find the burn-in track on the XLO/Sheffield disc to be that effective, I do like the other tracks, which include some neat tests and frequency sweeps, not to mention some well-recorded music. I'm definitely keeping my XLO/Sheffield disc.
