Re: Balderdash

Myles, I had some rotary switches made by Shallco to accomplish switching of phase without seriously degrading the crosstalk figures in our preamp. The switch is almost five inches long, uses silver contacts and four decks and it has very little effect on the sound. This is a very expensive solution that costs more than the pots in some highly regarded preamps. Anything less will effect measurable and perceived performance.....At retail such a switch would add about $750. to the cost of a preamp so most use miniswitches and live with less performance as respects crosstalk for this important function. I don't know what I would do without the switch as all the records I rarely played turned out to have reversed phase and it was like discovering the records all over again and my playable record library expanded with more options. CDs seem to be 50/50 as respects phase and vinyl seems to be about 70/30 normal phase/reversed phase in my experience....
