It started with the music. Dad enjoyed Louie Armstrong, Red Nichols, Jack Teagarden and others and frequently had "music sessions" when he'd sit down to just listen to records. My musical tastes were different, they started with R&R. But I copied him with active listening sessions.
Before finishing college I built my first stereo system, Dynakits with AR speakers and Dual turntable.
Then I believe in 1971 I discovered Steriphile and subscribed. I was also a charter subscriber to TAS. That lead to a list of component swaps where I learned more about different presentations.
By the mid-'70s I joined our local audio club where I met new friends who shared the hobby. Visiting their homes to hear their systems and attending audio shows broadened my experience. That continued for more than three decades until I began losing interest in new details of component variation and system fine tuning and simply wanted to sit back and enjoy the music.
