My take on absolute phase as told to me is this example:
Let's say that a vocalist is taking a breath before he/she starts to sing. Purists would say that the diaphram of the speaker should move back and then only forward when starting to sing, ie that this adds some subjective realism to the system. Some components invert the signal, as if you took both pairs of speaker wires and reversed them (now you have the + on the - posts of your speakers.
