What's worse?

What's even worse than a component or cable making the treble strident or brittle is something not even related at all to the system doing just that. By "not related at all to the system" I mean not anywhere in the components, speakers, the AC wiring, the room acoustics, the source material. This is why so many people get (negative) results they weren't expecting with new purchases, once you get past the break in time, which itself explains this treble trouble in some cases.

But what I'm referring to here are the effects on sound by things in the local environment, but not part of the system. "The universe is not locally real," the concept that won the Nobel prize for physics last year, explains in many cases why the treble often sounds strident or brittle. It also explains why the sound is not as good as you expected: it's thin, two dimensional, rolled off at the bottom and lacking articulation and plumpness in the bass, overly compressed, congealed, lackluster and like paper mache.

Give some examples, you ask? Take all unused cables, unused electronics out of the room. Listen to the system again. If you need more proof take all cellphones and watches and clocks out of the room. Then listen again.,
