you're able to audition the DUT in a friend's spectacular system with which you're quite familiar. I could elaborate on details if desired.

For me, it is first and foremost the cohesiveness of the presentation and ability to deliver a natural sounding result. With treble, mainly if the sins are of commission . The Hypex Ncore amp used in the garage simply cannot duplicate the air and harmonic "rightness" of VTL MB-450s when driving the big stats. Having said that, the top end of the Hypex is very clean and inoffensive.
While it's a touch sterile, it's not at all like days of yore with the hard-as-nails top end of "D" series Crown amps - had one as a teen. Nor like a current Crown switcher I once used where the top end reminds me of a bird slamming into a glass wall and immediately falling. The transition to poorly rendered harmonics was quite abrupt!
