RE: Some of my best records were mastered by Doug Sax.

This thread reminds me of the time I went to an audio show here in NYC. We go into one of the first rooms we encountered and the guy (always a guy) is up there extolling the virtues of his speakers using all the buzzwords, and the speakers do look good. But after going on way too long with his spiel and with everybody anticipating being blown away by the sound, he puts on some audiophile recording of flute music from the dark ages. Everybody just started moving away.

Later that day, I'm in a room and I hear the unmistakable guitar intro to Hotel California from across the hall. I immediately went over, as did almost everybody else. Like it or hate it, it was at least something you'd really hear and listen to. That drew a crowd.
