I've stumbled across a lot of YouTube videos on this recent topic, and the vinyl community is very upset about it......Apparently, the controversy deals with Mobile Fidelity's lack of disclosure of the use of digital (DSD) transfers, and a lot of vinylphiles thought they have purchased "AAA" pressings (SPARS code), in which it turns out, were actually "ADA".......
(SPARS codes have not been disclosed much in recent time, by any record label. The recording industry vehemently argued that it was an unnecessary disclosure, and these codes faded away over time..... But this controversy might make SPARS codes relevant again.)
I do think this could stifle the resurgence of vinyl sales... But the real issue now is how widespread this questionable practice has been taking place. We may have purchased a lot of vinyl releases in which we didn't realize had some digitization in the recording process. (This issue could go well beyond Mobile Fidelity.)
(Note that I have come across some recent vinyl releases that were remastered with Auto-Tune.... This would not even be possible if there was no digitization stage between the original analog master and the final vinyl release.)
I haven't really compared pure analog vinyl releases with ones with digitization in the process..... I believe that the RFI modulation from active digital processing does not audibly pass through the vinyl, but I do know some vinylphiles who disagree with me on this.
