in all seriousness -- as mentioned below, perfect subwoofer amplifiers

Lots of power for short money.
Horses for courses, as they say.

I have a philosophical issue with Class D (pulse width modulation) amplifiers (FWIW, and as I understand things). The basic idea behind them (again, as I understand it): transistors are lousy linear amplifiers, so take a linear amplifier application (AC waveform, i.e., music), turn it into something transistors are good at, let the transistors do the heavy lifting, then filter the output back to something that looks like an amplified AC waveform. Does that seem like a good idea a priori to you?

I DO use a cheap Class D amplifier with DSP for my subwoofer -- I do get tempted to pick up a Crown or Behringer Class D "pro" amp for fun shoots and Googles (as I like to say), but they're not quite cheap enough to warrant purchase for absolutely no good reason .

Note the fine craftsmanship of the base I built for that cheap PE plate amp! ;)

Oh, also: I'd be curious to know just what it is that's "breaking in" in a pulse-width modulation amplifier circuit? The filter networks' capacitors, perhaps?

all the best,
mrh
