RE: Brass instruments to test a system ?

For sure! I have a few direct to disc albums (Sheffield Labs, American Gramophone, etc) of some big band music, and I find them indispensable for "the big audition" of systems.

I believe mastering engineer Stan Ricker once made comment that if you have a good recording of a trumpet (ala Harry James or similar), then you can even hear if a system is in proper polarity...
