was that he basically made many incorrect statements. One which comes to mind is that he claimed Japanese CD's alternated in polarity from track to track. When asked to list at least one such disc which followed this protocol he did not list any.It is difficult to assess a generalization without at least one example ( my Japanese discs display no such anomaly but then I do not claim to have listened to all Japanese cd's.
My last Buddy holly Lp displays a mixing of polarities. Curiously the orchestral backed ones are inverted in relation to the small group mixes. I did notice that they were recorded in two different studios, however.
Going on, even in Johnsen's book, while the list of references is impressive, he does not bother to explain the sonic differences. It makes it very hard for any listener to assess the polarity when no clue is given as to what to listen for. Neither does Clark bother to make any list of recordings as to the relative polarity he found them.
He does recommend to reverse speaker wires, but then goes on to say to use what ever pleases your ear, hardly an attempt to standardize and illuminate an audio issue. I do not believe he was aware of the fact that many speaker systems have drivers in mixed polarities, which would cloud any assessment.
Of course you may disagree. and of course YMMV
Should add that Louis has modified many of his pronouncements over time also. His work, and I find him a brave man in releasing them, is basically a work in progress.
