Most of the responses below seem to treat the subject as if a recording is either only "good" or "bad". This misses the reality that there's a lot of territory in the middle.
When listening critically to the recording (most of the time I just enjoy the music), I may find myself wishing they'd miked the singer differently, mixed this instrument or that one at a different level or perhaps used a special effect with greater reservation, but find most other aspects well done.
However, the first issue is that I need to like the music plus be in the mood for it. (I'm sure everyone has had the experience of putting on an album they like and discovering they are just not up for it at the moment.)
If the only appeal to me is recording quality, it almost never gets more than one pass at listening.
