That's it's not all about the music. If it's all about the music we would listen on inexpensive equipment, listen to more live music, and so forth. The truth is like a violinist who had rather hear his music played on a fine violin that cost mega-bucks because the sound is more beautiful. Most of us love to listen to music on systems that sound that also sound beautiful. So it's no surprise that we occasionally listen to a recording because it just sounds good.
Sure it would be very odd to do that very often if we don't like the music, but I think most of us do it occasionally. I personally listen to lots of mono recordings, for two reasons. First, there are lots of great recordings on mono, and second, lot's of time the mono sounds better than the stereo even if there is a stereo version of it.
Point is we shouldn't be so hard on ourselves or others for sometimes just enjoying the beautiful sounds our system can make. Yes the music is the main thing, but the sound is very important to most of us or we wouldn't spend so much time and money on this pursuit.
