RE: What was your "Eureka!" audio moment?

My first time hearing (at age 12) Emerson Lake and Palmer's "Welcome Back My Friends..." triple live LP (okay, not exactly audiophile, or even really good sounding, IMHO) ripping forth for the first time through my uncle's system- Taya (British?) turntable with A-T MM cart, Phase Linear 2000 preamp, Dynaco ST-150 power amp, Sears (!) LXI speakers (big ones with 10" woofers).

The bass, while not true, was big and bombastic (and very cool to my 12 year old mind!), and the system played fairly loud in that room, IIRC.

That was my "a-ha!" moment. I knew I had to do something about it...
