When I was a kid, our neighbors owned one of those big old movie theaters. When I was around 13, I was an usher there, along with the sons of the owner. They'd give us flashlights, and we'd try to maintain order. The kids 3 or 4 years younger would call us 'Mister' just because we had flashlights.
It was a Saturday, and the early cartoon matinee had just cleared out. I sat down in the empty theater, because I'd been standing all morning hollering at kids.
The old black and white movie, 'Where the Boys Are', came on. Connie Francis sang the theme song. I remember they showed a beach road from a helicopter, and she began singing. Not really being a Connie Francis fan then or now, I was really taken by surprise. It was the greatest fidelity I'd ever heard.
Probably then or now! :-)
I had never been stoned in my life, but I felt stoned that day. I guess it was an endorphin rush. I remember the theater had two speakers - one on the right of the stage and one on the left. They were the size of refrigerators. They also had an olive drab tube amp that glowed and put out heat like crazy. Totally amazing!
