I went to a local audio store a few years ago to have my headphones and headphone amp checked out since there was a problem with one of the channels. While there I asked If I could hear some tube equipment since I had never heard any. The guy hooked up some Spendor speakers to a store made preamp and an audio Note (UK) power amp with a VPI turntable, Manley Steelhead and I don't remember what cartridge. He put on MFSL Muddy Waters Folk Singer. It was the first time I had ever heard stereo sound the way stereo is supposed to sound. I swear Muddy and Sonny came into the store to play just for me. When I got home I listened to my setup and within minutes called the store to ask what they had done that I wasn't doing. My equipment ain't no Bose so I expected to have the best of sound at home. (Ayre amps, Vienna Acoustics Strauss speakers, etc.) It turns out I had simply never been educated in proper speaker placement. What a difference it made. Now I have the sound I paid good money for whenever I feel like it and have become a real advocate for this simple tweak to any equipment.
