My Eureka moment was at grandmas. She had this enormous chrome Eureka upright with a giant maroon bag and a light on the front!
Seriously; It was when I was 19 while serving in the Air Force.
I lived in the barracks and there were several old guys - hell, they had to be 26 or 27. They had overseas tour(s) under their belts and had come back to the states with Akai, Teac, Studer, Nakamichi, Luxman, Sansui, Quad and Kef gear. One could also buy Klipsch, Bose, Harmon Kardon, Polk etc.. from the BX/PX at a steep discount.
There were more nice sounding systems per square foot than you could believe.
Everyone had a decent system. Most had very good systems (for the day).
I have been hooked ever since.
