I don't think having a well engineered vocal recording that is musically mediocre is a statement or taking a side!
I think, though, everyone should have a piece of music or two as a reference - and vocals tend to be the "acid test" for realism. Doesn't matter if the music you find good or bad as long as you can use it as a reference for realism. And again, this isn't going to be a staple.
I am sure we all have them - at least one or two (and if you don't - you really ought to! But just 1-2.)
