Even the first balcony in the Golden Circle were not as good, IMO.
But then I like the detail and dynamics you get from being a little closer, while still getting the integration of the various sections of the orchestra into a single entity.
According to Peter Moncrieff, of IAR, who was living in the Bay area at the time, the best seat in the hall was the center of row M where the acoustic engineer sat to due his tuning.
We were a couple of rows back from there in row P.
Oh and my company made a small donation when I purchased the season tickets for better seats.
