I'm going to chime in an agree with Jim

When you sensitize yourself to sonics and invest in good equipment, it is going to change your listening tastes and increase the importance of sound engineering. Several years ago, I considered recordings from the vantage point of composition/song and performance. Now sound engineering is added as a third important component.

My wife is a big-time foodie/cook, etc. In the "foodie world," there are apparently two types:
foodies (focus on fine dining, ingredients, innovative recipes, etc.)
chowhounds (they like good food whether it's at Nobu or at a good burger stand on 17th street)

I think that's a useful categorization for audiophiles, as well. I lean towards #1.
