"This said, do you think that this heavily compressed?"
Quite the contrary...... The soft passages are *really* soft, the loud passages don't blast at all. (You don't realize it's loud.) But the natural timbres of the instruments come through in spades. This is not a recording that will "wow" at first listen, but then you realize what you hear is very consistent with unamplified acoustic music in the flesh....... This is the type of recording where one whose ears are trained on the sounds of various pianos could tell if it's a Steinway, if you get the gist. (I can't tell personally, but for example, you can sense the pulsations of the lower registers. I sense the physical presence of the instrument.)
This recording reminds me of the Mozart Concertos 21/24 Seattle/Istomin/Schwarz from Reference Recordings. This is another recording that captures the subtle dynamics and timbres, consistent with the real thing.![]()
