Actually, it's fabulous CDs.... This is a 2-CD album.
Brad Mehldau- "Highway Rider".
This is fresh air in modern jazz. This delves into other genres, including classical- About a third of the tracks have chamber orchestra. But the quintet is active through most of the album, with Mehldau on piano, Joshua Redman on tenor sax, Larry Grenadier on bass, and two drummers, Jeff Ballard and Matt Chamberlain. The melodies and harmonies are spooky, intoxicating...... The tracks are kind of like a wine tasting, the flavors are subtle and sublime.
The sonics of this set is also world class. Although there might be more spectacular recordings out there, you just hear everything, whatever interplays and textures will give your mind a workout. Not to mention possible acoustic material to evaluate audio systems.
It's been a while, but there's still great music to be heard.
