RE: Badly recorded: sounds like its being played from a $39 boom box though it's your $50K rig

Almost every pop recording since the urie compressor was invented in the 50's has the vocals, the bass the piano and the drums compressed individually to some degree or another. It can be done with taste and also be totally destructive. The biggest problem occurs in the final mastering when they put the final mix into a compressor to make it as loud as possible
