RE: Percussion on records

For most modern recordings of pop or rock, you are right. Maybe (though I do doubt it, becuase in many cases the drums are mixed low) you'd have better results with horn speakers, but most recordings are so compressed that the drums have little to no dynamic range at all. Recently I heard 11 bands in about two weeks and every one sounded better than on CDs. If it isn't the dynamics, it's the mix.
