RE: A couple...

"Leaving a rotary or slider volume control in one position for a while encourages sonic degradation as it can develop oxidation on the portion of the wiper that is uncovered. Moving the knob or slider back and forth several times acts as a kind of wiper path cleanser."

The path is the portion uncovered, the wiper is a little set of metal tines that run along the path. I wouldn't recommend doing this weekly, you are more likely to just wear the pot out rather than keeping it clean. It is possible to spray some deoxit in there once in a while instead to "treat" the path chemically.

"According to the amplifier manufacturer, with the way I was using my amp, I might have to change tubes after about two years. But what I found was that after six months the deterioration was already fairly substantial!

And it’s not just output tubes. It can be rectifiers, drivers, inputs, etc."

Driver/rectifier tubes may last indefinitely in some instances. I have had Russian EL34's go two years without being switched off, while Chinese 6L6's go about 9 months before being completely worn out, but it is a great idea to flip a fresh set in and listen every couple of months.
