Krieger was obviously impressed pre-1985 (my best guess) because the stereo in the store was much better than his own. That would impress anyone whether vinyl was the source or CDs.

Post-1985 Krieger most likely had a good stereo at home so what he heard in a store was not going to be impressive because the sound quality gap was smaller (or maybe he preferred his stereo/listening room at home).

There is a side issue that Krieger loves vinyl and hates CDs, so maybe is NEVER impressed by CDs. That bias is sad because so much music is only available on CDs.
