On the West section of Golden Gate Plaza off Mayfield Rd.. A sad aspect of that place was before it closed, they replaced those VOTs with stacked Bose 802s or 901s. Of course back at that time, I never imagined the VOTs being audiophile faves.
When I moved to California, there were stores like Licorice Pizza and Wherehouse, which also had amazing sound, in my recollections. Not to mention the old Federated Group stores, where I spent almost half my time.... Most of the stuff there was "mid-fi" by high-end standards (although they did have an "esoteric" room, with Dahlquist and Ohm Walsh F), but the sound got a lot of people hooked on audio nonetheless.
