I do have that, but primarily with CD (don't use vinyl); FM seems unable to go that far right and left with width, but is OK with depth.Have heard such soundstage width and depth many times on very good systems. It's not at all a rarity, but it IS a matter of receiving clearly at your ears the proper set of HF cues for spatial placement that trick the brain into interpreting it as 3D sound from 2 point or line sources.
In fact, I have at least three times witnessed soundstage in stereo that is jaw-droppingly 3D. Once many years ago when I first heard what I surmise was a Beveridge set of speakers - the sound actually seemed to come from behind me on a test recording of a truck! ONce when actually auditioning a set of Beveridge 2S with Rick Beveridge in his warehouse; I wrote up that one on one of these boards about 3 years ago. And lastly at Al Sekela's place I heard cues that were consistently projecting a 270 or so degree soundstage - truly pleasing and amazing - on one specific recording.
Otherwise, in my home setup, which is no big deal, from my VR1s I normally get soundstage much wider than the wide speaker setup on all my CDs. BTW, Von Schweikerts are known for excellent soundstage and imaging, and if you get a chance to audition the VR4jr.s with their rear "ambience" speakers, you'll know what I'm talking about.
