I could have popped over....
Are you happy with the basic sound that you get now. I find that too near rear walls will start to compress the sound by boosting the bass and too near the sides also add reflections that cause chaos.
There are various set up techniques listed in the FAQ on the homepage here I believe, many of the writers are much more of an authority on the subject then myself.
But what I have discovered is this, if the room basically has parallel walls then try to get them symmetrical and the same with the seat. Get the tape measure out and take readings from the side and rear walls. Pull the seating position away from the rear wall if you can... it sounds like a fair sized room.
BUT before you do this, make a note of just where you started from... nothing worse than cocking things up and not being able to find your way home. I use a low tack masking tape and mark the position of the corners of where the speakers are in the room onto the floor or carpet and number them. You can then go between different positions if you need to check, providing the speakers are of a manageable size.
Try some radical big moves out into the room and work your way back towards the rear walls, if you can in your room... try something as dramatic as having the speakers a third of the way down the room and the seat at two thirds...
Try imagining a line from the speaker drive units firing down the room. Some speakers like to cross over in front of the listener but i like to fire past me and so I sit inside the field created. The angle will dramatically effect the sound and the quality of the image you get.
But experiment, all rooms are going to sound different. If I get a chance later on I will sketch out the room size and have a look at where I would put them.In the mean time, have fun.
