Back in the '70's discrete 4 channel 33 1/3 rpm LPs were offered using an AM modulation technique referred to as 'CD4' to encode the rear channels between 25 and 50khz which information was summed with the front channel information before cutting the master. Their inception popularized elliptical styli and moving coil cartridges which were needed to accurately trace and reproduce the above 20khz information.
