Vinyl was needing a champion...All very nice, but the fact is that squarewaves in the context of media with markedly different dynamic range limits mean very little (if they ever meant anything in the first place). Whereas sine signals have more than a passing resemblance to music (for starters they are very audible). In fact you could run these comparative tests with different types of waves and reach the same conclusion in terms of digital's overall superiority. It is rather a waste of time since results are more or less the same.
So I have to disagree with your conclusion that these latter measurement are biased towards digital. Although these measurements are imprefect, they are not biased. Whereas sqauerwaves taken in isolation are biased towards any medium that just happens to pass them well, regardless of dynamic range, noise, etc.
