would anyone want to know if there were other recordings like Poem? to AVOID them? i certainly would. no matter how well a sound is recorded, if it is a poor performance, thats what you have. poem is not interesting at all in any intellectual way. i paid for it but never enjoyed one second of it. i would use it to demonstrate why a performance is the reason to own a recording, not the recording quality.
IF those two things happen at the same time, its another story. some of the direct to discs were a fortunate capturing of great music making. woody herman-road father, sheffield-harry james-three of them. discovered again-dave grusin, the classical sheffields.
THOSE were interesting. i havent bought another stereophile LP since. call me stubborn but-ouch! not gonna do that again.
