I start with a good recording of saxophone music. The Brubeck "Take 5" or "Live at The Pawnshop". Then "The Girl from Ipanema". This has the luxury of combining female vocal with saxophone and acoustic guitar.
The saxophone should have the wood sound of the reed come through and not sound too brassy. (It is a woodwind) If I can relax and just hear the music than I am 66% there. That challenges the midrange and treble of the speaker. If the speaker is still in consideration I then turn to Orchestral pieces to check dynamic range and continuity over the crossover frequencies. Cello pieces are excellent for this.Of course you have to listen to the music you love and will be spending your time with.
Good Hunting.
