Hello -George Cardas gave me one of his "sweep records" years ago. I thought it was such a silly idea that I never even tried it out. Then a friend demonstrated it for me on his system. I was astounded at the difference it made, and was kicking myself for not using it for all those years.
Thats's when we decided to make a version of the "sweep record" for CD. If I am just using my system on a normal basis, I usually "demagnetize" it (that does indeed to be the mechanism involved, although I certainly can't prove it) once or twice a week.
However, if I am doing listening tests by comparing components, I play the sweep track each time I swap a component in the system. This really seems to mitigate the bad effects of physically disturbing the system, and makes the entire comparison process much easier.
Best regard,
Charles Hansen
