Magic - my butt! If what you want is inoffensive and easy to take sound then fine - but I'd recommend you not waste your money on fine audio equipment which if well choosen can unravel the music hidden on each and every LP or CD played. Instead of using some irrelevant set of generic sounding studio crafted audiophile glitter recordings/pressings that are made to sound good instead of communicate a musical message, try some real music like on LPs - Junior Wells Hoodoo Man Blues, J. Geils Band - Live Blow Your Face Out, Neil Diamond Hot August Night, Led Zeppelin I, Skip James - Devil Got My Woman, Pat Methany - As Witchata Falls..., MC5 - Kick Out the Jams, Rolling Stones Decembers Children or on CDs Buddy and Julie Miller, Lucinda Williams - Essence or Erin McKeown - Distillation. Real musicians making real music can't sound good on every cheap system but better systems don't need the generic audiophile fodder that everyone seems to like in order to deliver the musical goods.
