well, as to the original point, Clapton denigrated those that inspired him

which is poor form, but that his comments were racially tinged really is distasteful

your point isn't resonating with me because I've never heard Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robben Ford, Billy Gibbons etc., or the ultimate whiter than white blues player Johnnie Winter taken to task for 'lifting licks' from their black heroes ... they're playing music in an idiom / genre based on prior art just as Clapton does

oddly enough one of the most sampled 'riffs' used in hip hop is 'Long Red' by Leslie West [ne Wienstein] from his solo debut 'Mountain'

anyway, Eric has a platform but is getting a bit too much attention on this IMO
