Back in '75 there were only vinyl records with background noise, compressed dynamics and EQ as our sources

The question is whether all of the listeners would have been able to hear differences among all of the amplifiers using records from that era (I think 1975 was before the late 1970's direct-to-disc LPs with their improved fidelity).

There was no attempt to answer that question.

Differences among amplifiers were merely assumed.

That's not a test of anything.

Using mastertapes and headphones that connected to the amplifiers might have helped differentiate among amplifiers, or maybe not.

But would the results with mastertapes and headphones apply to speakers and commercial LP's?
