It's funny you should doubt me because of my spelling.

What does spelling ability have to do with it? I've been at this for 45 years. For most of that time I thought virtually all high-quality amps couldn't be distinguished from one another in blind listening unless something was wrong with them. I still think that is the case. But some can. Some that are very good can be distigushed from others that are very good. But the differences for most high quality amps is quite subtle. In case you are interested, the three brands I was considering were Musical Fidelity, Plinius, and Adcom, the Plinius was the only of these three that could make the tamborine sound really convincing and the "cymbals" sound as they should when they were hit differently. The music was the Russian Sailors Dance. I believe I could walk into my listening room now with any of these three having been hooked up by someone else and me not knowing which was installed and tell you which one was being used by listening. Whether this makes any difference to people is another question.

It is sometimes easy to hear the effects of tube rolling on amps. In a DBT test the difference is obvious. Does this count? It is much harder to hear the difference between high-quality SS amps, and the load can possibly make a difference in how hard it is. Maybe I could hear the difference between the three amps above because my speakers present a challenging load to them; I have never seen an impedance vs. frequency plot for them.
