Daryl, it depends on the system. I have heard the Plinius and the YBA. IMO the Plinius can sound edgy and etched in some systems. Your over generalization and ad hominem assertions are noted.The YBA and Audio Refinement deserve a serious listen. And as much as everyone loves Plinius around here, and I do too, it is NOT for every system.
Regarding Jon's system, I have heard the YBA and Audio Refinement with the Planet CDP, and I have heard the Plinius with the Planet... and I preferred the Planet with the YBA. I found the Planet/Plinius combination to be uninvolving and recessed. Could it sound different/better with other speakers? Yes.
The Silver 5i's are an easy speaker to drive and the YBA or Audio Refinement will have plenty of current for them.
