Julian imbalance.

Or maybe he actually listened to music and not audiophile approved test discs?

In my opinion, if a claimed difference between two amps is so small as not to be able to differentiate it on a DBT, that the difference is so small as not to be worth a component change. We all can differentiate between loudspeakers in a DBT. Can we not? For amplifiers, I don't doubt that a person can possibly learn to hear small differences between two competently engineered amplifiers. But will that minute difference really affect the listening experience? It is comical that people rationalize such purchases based on such small differences when there are such huge differences in recorded media that would more than offset frequency response differences between two competently enginneered amplifiers, each driven within their power envelope. Perhaps Julian was onto something. Screw John Adkinson. He thinks that only Golden ears or Stereophile reviewers know good sound when they hear it. Before you trash me, please refer to my components of choice.

P.S. That tilt control on the Quad pre amps would be an excellent addition to any system.
