Don't get me wrong...

Well, fortunately I get to pick what I listen to. And I can't remember very many recordings where I liked the music but didn't listen because they were poorly recorded (and I don't have tone controls).

Let's see - for example, I like Robert Johnson's 1937 recording of "King of the Delta Blues Singers" a lot and it's not a very good recording. But it captures his guitar playing and singing - and the 'essence' of the Delta Blues - in a way the more modern recorded covers (e.g. Eric Clapton) can only hint at.

One I didn't like is "It Still Moves" by My Morning Jacket. While some of the songs and music were good, it was recorded with way too much reverb and got on my nerves. Tone controls wouldn't have helped. But perhaps a less resolving stereo or MP3 playback through cheap headphones could have made it more listenable.

So I can't think of any music I liked but couldn't stand because of a recording quality issue that tone controls would have remedied.
