Norm, I'm with you on this. People don't understand the difference between incident and reflected sound, and mix up the two in measurements. If you just equalize the 'room' then you screw up the incident sound.
When I worked with the Grateful Dead, we tried to equalize acoustical venues with EQ. We used pink noise, and even subjected one audience at Stanford university to it, just before the concert. It didn't work very well, but we had high hopes at first. This was back in 1973, now we know better.
