Re: Julian Hirsch And Sonic Differences Between Amplifiers

Thanks for your response John.
I guess from a purists point of view, this makes sense.
However, what if the recording is an excellent performance, and recorded badly ?
Lets say the recording engineer put too much EQ on the treble, and strings have a steely quality ?
Do we "grin and bear it" and become hostage to the poor judgement the engineer used in making the recording, or do we try and change it ?
Suprisingly, in a conversation with Richard Vandersteen I had pretty recently, he said, in his opinion, that taking the tone controls out of pre amps was a mistake.
He advocated tone bypass.
That suprised the heck out of me that mister dimensional purity first order Maverick himself would advocate the use of tone controls, when necessary!
Is it possible that distortions introduced by tone controls are less audible then gross frequency response errors ?
Why not do as Richard suggests, and just use a bypass ?
And, this Baxendall circuit, what pre amp used this ?
I was also told that EQ or tone correction, done in Digital domain, dont live by the same rules ?
What are your thoughts on this ?
Oh, and BTW, I find that a little Parasound HCA 500 amp, on two pair of big Horns I own, sounds great, why ?
