"why should the minute effects of cable capacitance variance between the tonearm and the preamp, which should be minute really assuming sound engineering practice was utilized in the design of such cables, e.g. the level of engineering one might expect even from a Radio Shack product, .... why would such minor variance that admittedly yield minute frequency response variations mushroom into "enormous" effects. After all the signal with but minor freq. response variations simply goes through a number of amplification stages that each, being the product of wise engineering acumen introduce but tiny freq. response variations themselves."

Because electrical differences in the cartridge cause the same cable to have a different hi frequency attenuation for different cartridges. This should be obvious and it has been demonstrated many times to the point where some cartridge manufacturers specify the optimum capacitance for their particular cartridge. Some preamplifier manufacturers also offered adjustable phono input capacitance to tweak frequency response for different cartridges. While you may criticize my electrical engineering skills, yours appear to be non existant as is your knowledge of high fidelity sound system hardware.
