And if for some reason the final result isn't flat but too shrill or to muted or inadequate bass or too much bass, when you have tone controls and are willing to use them you have the option of adjusting them to correct this shortcoming and increase enjoyment of the recording by making it sound more like real music. Audiophiles have made it their religious dogma that anything which chanes the frequency response of a sound system adds intolerable distortion and is therefore unacceptable. Never mind that nearly all of their recordings have had tons of equalization especially vinyl phonograph records time after time during their production cycle from the original NAB tape record and playback curves, Dolby "A" a non linear gain system using for bands of equalization and in all of the mastering. What do they think a crossover network is if not an equalizer and a very poor one at that? If they only knew.
