Depending on just how serious you are about listening critically through your 'phones - and I mean critically, not just while doing some busiwork - you might just (stay with me here) swing into your neighborhood Rad Shack. I suspect they still carry a nifty little gadget in a plastic bag for around $5 that already has the quarter-inch jack wired up & pigtails hanging out that you can route right to your speaker terminals. It may suit your needs perfectly; it doesn't feature the 10% resistor Jon talks about, but 98% of receivers & amps don't, either. And REMEMBER: you gotta make sure you have a common ground between your speaker outputs (although there's another step similar to Jon's to deal with a floating ground, too) to use Jon's or the Rad Shack setup. If you're doing some SERIOUS listening, then you ought to look into a separate headphone amp, about which you can find endless info at Headroom.
