Do the measurements matter? Yes. But you really hear with your brain. The brain interprets what the ears receive and if you haven't trained your brain to interpret what you hear you don't hear all of it. It explains why really experienced, old audiophiles who have lost an octave and have holes elsewhere in their hearing experience more than many younger audiophiles.
