is it typical for hifi dealers to allow in home trial periods and returns ......

these days would you buy a new piece of hifi equipment without hearing it or being able to return it ?

example ,,,, lets say you want to upgrade your DAC and you read on line that a model XYZ made in Luxenberg is really great ,,,, there are 2 reviews by owners - all positive ,,,,, ends up there is a dealer in Oberland Ohio which is extremely far from you in Los Angels ,,,, you call him and he has one brand new in box .... he can overnight it to you.

You then say to him " hey -I never actually physically heard this unit - can I have a 24 hour return period if I hook it up and am not as in love with it as you are ? "

dealer says " I cant do that - I am a Mom and Pop store - I cant afford returns"

would you go for it and buy it ? ...... I wouldn't - no way - too easy to make a mistake ... what if there is no system synergy ? What if there is some little aspect to the sound that drives you nuts ?

what if it was a set of massive speakers or an extremely expensive turntable .... would you buy it if there was no way to immediately get out from under it ?
